Data Display
1. Open the ArcMap application in the Windows Start Menu. Start ArcGIS ArcMap .
2. If a dialog appears (ArcMap - Getting Started) it can be ignored by clicking Cancel.
3. Enter shp by clicking Add Data in the Standard toolbar.
4. Browse the shp of irrigation areas and irrigation canals in the geodatabase created in the previous chapter. If needed, also add a base map feature class as limit administration, River or reservoir. Click Add for add it to layers.
5. The feature will appear in the display. Display management in the display can be arranged in the Table of Contents layer. The general command used for selected shp extents is to use the Zoom to Layer feature by right-clicking the layer (shp) you want to extend clicking Zoom To Layer
6. Set the display of each layer to make it easier to identify the shp data for irrigation areas and irrigation networks. The settings can be done first by setting the order of the layers by dragging the layers according to the display ordering needs. To optimize the appearance, place a line layer (irrigation network) above the polygon (irrigation area). If there is a shp in the form of a point, put it at the top. While raster data (satellite image) is placed last.
7. Next is to set the symbology of each layer. This stage is carried out to provide a display configuration (line thickness, coloring, etc.) of the layer as needed. For this stage, the symbology used is enough with single coloring without categories. Click the symbol under the layer name set the color and line configuration in the Symbol Selector. Change the color and thickness as needed on the irrigation network.
8. There is a Transparency feature to facilitate the identification process of polygon geometric data in particular. How to show the Effect toolbar via the Customize menubar click Effects first select the feature to be transparent click Adjust Transparency ️ Set how much transparency.
9. To display the label (eg the name of the administrative area) right click on the administrative boundary layer Properties click the check mark on the Label features in this layer select the Label Field that will appear Set the coloring and font click OK.
